**HKUAA SUMMER LEGEND**
SUMMER MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
FOR PRE-UNIVERSITY STUDENTS 2008
[by HKUAA YOUNG ALUMNI GROUP]

HKUAA SUMMER MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

FOR PRE-UNIVERSITY STUDENTS 2008

Introduction

Hong Kong University Alumni Association's (HKUAA) Young Alumni Group initiates the Summer Mentorship Programme for Pre-University Students.

This is a programme where young alumni and current university students from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) play a role in sharing with pre-university students information and experiences about university life, hall life, academic and career prospects. The programme is group-based. Mentees will be recruited from selected Band One Secondary Schools that show interest in the programme. Mentees will be arranged in groups of around five under the guidance of around three Mentors. Mentors MUST be young alumni or current local undergraduates from HKU.

Objectives

Through organizing various academic-related and social activities, the programme aims to support students in gaining better understanding of university education, the university environment, choice of academic disciplines and future careers.

Pre-university students will be able to seek valuable advice from Mentors, some of whom are professionals in different fields, others current undergraduates or post-graduates. The mix of Mentors can help students in their choice of studies at the university and their career planning.

Mentors and Mentees will be able to meet HKU alumni, HKU students, other pre-university students and if possible HKU Faculty Members and renowned guests.

Programme Highlights

-        The programme is designed to take place from July to August, 2008.

-        The programme is open to Secondary 5 - 7 students only.

-        Successful candidates will be arranged in a GROUP of around five mentees under the guidance of around three mentors who are young alumni and/or current students of The University of Hong Kong.

-        Throughout the programme, HKUAA will provide a variety of academic-related and social activities which will enhance students' understanding of university education and environment, as well as personal skills and future career development.

-        All the activities will be non-lecture based, students will have the opportunity to learn about university life at HKU through interactive discussions, workshop, meeting with exchange students, seminars, social activities, campus and hall tour.

-        Around 3-4 meetings will be conducted in the weekends' afternoons during Jul/Aug08. The programme will tentatively start on 5th July 2008.

-        Cost of most activities will be sponsored by HKUAA.
