GALAPAGOS ISLANDSby Mr. Vincent WONG
Known as the “Enchanted Islands”, the Galapagos is noted for its amazing climate, geological history, animal and plant life. The place was made famous by Charles Darwin’s visit in 1835, which inspired him to later publish “On the Origin of Species”, explaining to the world his principle on Evolution by Natural Selection. The Galapagos has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978 and a World Biosphere Reserve since 1985. In 2007, the organization declared the islands’ environment endangered due to the introduction of invasive species like feral dogs and cats, rats, pigs and goats and increased tourism. Fortunately, this status was removed in February 2012 after implementing stringent regulations to manage the environment. Conservation process is ongoing today as the fragile islands also face the challenge from global climatic changes.

“Very useful guide for my future trip!”
”Now what I have seen makes much more sense. Thank you!”
