THE MYSTERIOUS XI XIA EMPIRE by Mr. Vincent WONG
Xi Xia (西夏) was a Tangut-led Buddhist imperial dynasty which existed for 189 years between 1038 and 1227 AD during the time of the Liao, Jin and Song dynasties in China. The kingdom was mainly located in what is now southwest Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Gansu. Its territory included the Hexi Corridor, which is a key stretch of the Silk Road. Unfortunately, as most of its written records and architecture were destroyed and no official history was written, its existence was little known until study began in the 20th century. The findings so far are simply amazing. They were not only extremely good warriors but had also developed their own writing and made significant achievements in literature, art, music and architecture. Tangutology, which is the study of Xi Xia culture, is now being internationally recognised as an important branch in Asian studies. History aside, the scenery of the territory including wetland and deserts is very beautiful and unique.
