POLYNESIA by Mr. Vincent WONG This travel talk covers the origin of the Polynesian people and more importantly how they managed to successfully carry out the last phase of human migration by conquering the vast Pacific Ocean and creating a rich and distinct culture of their own in every corner of the Polynesian Triangle. It is also very interesting to examine the evidence of their visit to the Americas which was way before Columbus landed on the new continent. Unfortunately, subsequent contact with the Western World led to them being colonized. The majority of the island nations including Hawaii, New Zealand, Easter Island, Society Islands and Cook Islands once and for all lost their independence. The rest of the talk will include a virtual trip to the very picturesque Tahiti, Moorea Bora Bora, Rarotonga, Aitutaki and One Foot Island, which I have just visited.

About the Speaker Mr. Vincent WONG ‧ Graduated from HKU in physical Geography 1971 ‧ MD Jardine Transport Services Group 1971-2000 ‧ MD Kerry Logistics Group 2000-2009 ‧ Fellow Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics ‧ Fellow Chartered Institute of Shipbrokers ‧ Lecturing Logistics as Adjunct Associate Professor at CUHK and Professor of Practice at PolyU. ‧ Visited over 100 countries including Antarctica, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Madagascar, Namibia, Botswana, Ethiopia, Iceland, Mexico, Galapagos, Mauritius, Easter Island, Chile, Ecuador, Canary Island, Azores Island plus many places in China such as Inner Mongolia and Qinghai. Acted as organiser and tour leader in many trips. ‧ Give talks regularly to members of the HK Geological Society and HK Mineralogy Society.
